About the EA:BCC Program

“Email Archives: Building Capacity and Community” is a four-year program seeking to build email archiving capacity in archives, libraries, and museums. The program funded projects of $25,000 to no more than $100,000 dollars. The goal of this project is to build a broad community of institutions that can preserve email as part of their research collections.

Program overview

With support provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the University of Illinois is leading a project to develop the capacity of archives, libraries, and museums to preserve email collections as an integral part of the historical record.

This work builds on the recommendations of the Task Force on Approaches for Email Archives and will result in the award of grants in the range of $25,000 to $100,000 dollars to support specific projects the enhance the ability of specific communities of practice to preserve email.  Proposed projects will support the overall goals of the regrant program:

  • Supporting specific process improvements to increase email archives tool functionality and interoperability.
  • Developing a community of practice that establishes a baseline of email acquisition, processing, discovery, and delivery services, suitable to a wide range of archival repositories.
  • Highlighting specific processed email collections and demonstrating how other archives can process and provide access to email using community-supported tools.

Specifically, we request proposals for institutional or collaborative projects that will implement recommendations found in the Future of Email Archives Report, available at HTTPS://WWW.CLIR.ORG/PUBS/REPORTS/PUB175/
